Your adventure begins with a drive from Moshi or Arusha to Lemosho Gate, where you’ll complete park registration. The trek starts with a gentle hike through the dense rainforest, home to Colobus monkeys, exotic birds, and rich vegetation.

You’ll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (“Big Tree Camp”), where you’ll settle in for your first night on the mountain.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

  • Hiking Distance: 8 km (5–6 hours)

Leaving the rainforest behind, you’ll enter the moorland zone, where the terrain becomes rockier and more open. The trail gradually ascends to Shira Ridge, offering stunning views of the Shira Plateau.

You’ll reach Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking sunsets and views of Kibo Peak.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,900m)

  • Hiking Distance: 7 km (3–4 hours)

Today’s hike is a shorter but important acclimatization trek across the Shira Plateau, a vast, scenic high-altitude plain.

You’ll reach Shira 2 Camp in the afternoon, where you’ll have time to relax, explore, and enjoy stunning panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks.
