Tour Overview: Cycle West Kilimanjaro to Arusha National Park

The West Kilimanjaro plains are a stunning region in northern Tanzania, consisting of Maasai community lands and Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). The landscape features acacia woodlands and open plains that support an impressive variety of wildlife, with spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Common wildlife sightings include wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, impalas, giraffes, and baboons. Depending on the season, elephants are frequently seen as the region lies along an elephant corridor linking Kenya’s Amboseli National Park and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

This region is home to the nomadic Maasai herdsmen, who co-exist with the wildlife, earning it the name “Maasai Land.” A cycling tour through this area offers a perfect blend of wildlife, Maasai culture, and breathtaking scenery, making it ideal for travelers seeking an unforgettable off-the-beaten-path adventure.

The path today takes you through dry and arid open grasslands, which present a striking contrast to the lush slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Wildlife such as wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, and elands are often seen in the early morning hours. The terrain is more challenging due to the rough gravel roads and rising temperatures. The final stretch involves a gradual ascent on a gravel road as you cycle towards Ngabobo Village. Your day ends at the Maasai Lodge, where you’ll enjoy a well-deserved rest and a delicious dinner.

As you approach the park, you might spot giraffes and other wildlife along the way. Your cycling tour ends at Momella Wildlife Lodge on the edge of the national park.
