Tour Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Umbwe Gate (1,600m) to Umbwe Camp (2,850m)

  • Hiking Distance: 11 km (5–7 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
Your adventure begins with a drive from Moshi or Arusha to the Umbwe Gate. After registration, you’ll begin your steep ascent through the rainforest, surrounded by lush vegetation and towering trees. Arrive at Umbwe Camp, perched on a ridge, for your first overnight stay.

Day 2: Umbwe Camp (2,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m)

  • Hiking Distance: 6 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Leave the rainforest behind as you trek into the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you ascend along a ridge, offering stunning views of the surrounding valleys. Arrive at Barranco Camp, where you’ll enjoy a well-deserved rest beneath the towering Barranco Wall.

Day 3: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

  • Hiking Distance: 5 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Today, you’ll tackle the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable climb that offers breathtaking views of the Barranco Valley. After conquering the wall, continue through the alpine desert to reach Karanga Camp, where you’ll rest and acclimatize.

Day 4: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

  • Hiking Distance: 4 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
The trek to Barafu Camp is relatively short but steep. Arrive early to rest, hydrate, and prepare your gear for the summit attempt. Enjoy an early dinner and sleep as much as possible before the midnight ascent.

Day 5: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)

  • Hiking Distance: 17 km (10–14 hours)
  • Habitat: Arctic (summit), Rainforest (descent)
Begin your summit push around midnight, trekking through the dark under a blanket of stars. Reach Stella Point (5,739m) and continue to Uhuru Peak, where you’ll witness a stunning sunrise at the top of Africa.After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Gate via Mweka Camp, where you’ll receive your certificate of achievement. Return to Moshi or Arusha to celebrate your successful climb!
