Tour Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (3,000m)

  • Hiking Distance: 11 km (6–7 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha to the Machame Gate, where registration is completed. Hike through the lush rainforest, home to unique flora and fauna, to reach Machame Camp, your first overnight stop. 

Day 2: Machame Camp (3,000m) to Shira Camp (3,840m)

  • Hiking Distance: 5 km (4–6 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Leave the rainforest behind as you ascend into the moorland zone, with spectacular views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscapes. Arrive at Shira Camp, where you’ll rest and enjoy your first views of Kibo Peak

Day 3: Shira Camp (3,840m) to Lava Tower (4,630m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (6–8 hours)
  • Habitat: Semi-desert
This acclimatization day takes you to Lava Tower, where you’ll reach an altitude of 4,630m before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adapt to the altitude. Along the way, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Kibo and the rugged Barranco Valley. 

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

  • Hiking Distance: 5 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Begin the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a thrilling and rewarding climb that leads to breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Continue through the alpine desert to reach Karanga Camp, where you’ll relax and acclimatize further. 

Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

  • Hiking Distance: 4 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Your trek to Barafu Camp is relatively short but steep. This is your base camp for the summit push. Spend the afternoon preparing for your midnight ascent to the peak and rest early for the big climb ahead. 

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,080m)

  • Hiking Distance: 15 km (10–14 hours)
  • Habitat: Arctic (summit), Rainforest (descent)
Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Trek under the stars to reach Stella Point (5,739m), and from there, continue to the ultimate goal: Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, begin your descent to Mweka Camp, where you’ll rest and reflect on your incredible achievement. 

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,080m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)

  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
On your final day, descend through the lush rainforest to the Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive a well-deserved certificate of achievement. Celebrate your success with your team before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
