Tour Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,600m)

  • Hiking Distance: 8 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Montane Forest
Start your adventure with a scenic drive to the Rongai Gate. After registration, begin your trek through lush montane forests, keeping an eye out for colobus monkeys and other wildlife. Arrive at Simba Camp, located on the edge of the moorland zone, for your first night.

Day 2: Simba Camp (2,600m) to Second Cave (3,450m)

  • Hiking Distance: 7 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Today’s trek takes you into the moorland zone, where the vegetation becomes sparser and the views more expansive. Stop at Second Cave for lunch, and enjoy views of Mawenzi Peak. Spend the night at a campsite nearby.

Day 3: Second Cave (3,450m) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

  • Hiking Distance: 6 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Trek across rolling hills and rocky landscapes to reach Kikelewa Camp, located at the base of Mawenzi Peak. This scenic camp offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for rest and acclimatization.

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp (3,600m) to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m)

  • Hiking Distance: 5 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Today’s trek is shorter but steeper, as you climb to Mawenzi Tarn, a stunning campsite situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi Peak. Use the afternoon to relax, explore the area, or take a short hike for additional acclimatization.

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m) to Kibo Hut (4,703m)

  • Hiking Distance: 9 km (5–6 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Leave Mawenzi behind as you cross the saddle, a vast alpine desert stretching between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The barren yet dramatic landscape offers incredible photo opportunities. Arrive at Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt, and rest early in preparation for the midnight climb.

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4,703m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

  • Hiking Distance: 21 km (10–15 hours)
  • Habitat: Arctic (summit), Moorland (descent)
Your summit push begins around midnight. Trek under a blanket of stars to reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m) at the crater rim. From there, continue to the ultimate goal: Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.After celebrating your achievement at the summit, begin your descent to Horombo Hut, where you’ll enjoy a well-earned rest.

Day 7: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,860m)

  • Hiking Distance: 20 km (5–7 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
On your final day, trek down through the lush rainforest to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive a certificate of achievement. Celebrate your incredible journey with your team before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
