Tour Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

  • Hiking Distance: 4 km (2–3 hours by vehicle, 1–2 hours trekking)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Your adventure begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. From there, continue by vehicle to the high-altitude Shira Plateau, where your trek begins. Hike through the moorlands to reach Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll enjoy your first night on the mountain.

Day 2: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

  • Hiking Distance: 7 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Trek across the stunning Shira Plateau, with sweeping views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding landscapes. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll rest and acclimatize at 3,850m.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Lava Tower (4,630m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (6–8 hours)
  • Habitat: Semi-desert
This acclimatization day takes you to the iconic Lava Tower, where you’ll reach an altitude of 4,630m. After enjoying lunch and spectacular views, descend to Barranco Camp, situated below the towering Barranco Wall. The “climb high, sleep low” approach is key to successful acclimatization.

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

  • Hiking Distance: 5 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Begin the day by scaling the Barranco Wall, a steep but rewarding climb. Continue trekking through alpine desert terrain to reach Karanga Camp, where you’ll rest and acclimatize further.

Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

  • Hiking Distance: 4 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Trek to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. Arrive early to rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare your gear for the midnight ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,080m)

  • Hiking Distance: 16 km (10–14 hours)
  • Habitat: Arctic (summit), Rainforest (descent)
Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Trek through the darkness to reach Stella Point (5,739m), and from there, continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your incredible achievement before descending to Mweka Camp, where you’ll rest after the long day.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,080m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)

  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
On your final day, descend through the lush rainforest to the Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Celebrate your accomplishment with your team before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
