Tour Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp (2,820m)

  • Hiking Distance: 7 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha to the Londorossi Gate for registration. Afterward, trek through lush rainforest teeming with wildlife, including colobus monkeys, to reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, also known as Big Tree Camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (2,820m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)

  • Hiking Distance: 8 km (5–6 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone. You’ll trek through rolling hills and enjoy your first views of Kibo Peak as you approach Shira 1 Camp on the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

  • Hiking Distance: 7 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Moorland
Continue across the scenic Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful areas, with expansive views of the surrounding landscape. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll rest and prepare for higher altitudes.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Lava Tower (4,600m) to Moir Hut (4,200m)

  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (6–8 hours)
  • Habitat: Semi-desert
This is an important acclimatization day. Trek to the iconic Lava Tower, where you’ll reach an altitude of 4,600m, before descending to Moir Hut at 4,200m. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to the thinner air.

Day 5: Moir Hut (4,200m) to Buffalo Camp (4,020m)

  • Hiking Distance: 12 km (5–7 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Head north to the Northern Circuit, a remote and tranquil part of Kilimanjaro that offers breathtaking views of the Kenyan plains. Arrive at Buffalo Camp, a quiet and scenic campsite perfect for relaxation.

Day 6: Buffalo Camp (4,020m) to Third Cave (3,870m)

  • Hiking Distance: 8 km (4–6 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Trek along the Northern Slopes with stunning vistas and a sense of solitude. Descend slightly to reach Third Cave, where you’ll spend the night in preparation for the summit push.

Day 7: Third Cave (3,870m) to School Hut (4,750m)

  • Hiking Distance: 5 km (4–5 hours)
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
Make your way to School Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt. Arrive early to rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare your gear for the midnight ascent to the summit.

Day 8: School Hut (4,750m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,080m)

  • Hiking Distance: 16 km (10–14 hours)
  • Habitat: Arctic (summit), Rainforest (descent)
Begin your summit attempt around midnight. Trek through the cold, dark night to reach Uhuru Peak in time for a spectacular sunrise. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Camp, where you’ll enjoy a well-earned rest.

Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,080m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)

  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (3–4 hours)
  • Habitat: Rainforest
On your final day, descend through the rainforest to the Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive a certificate of achievement. Celebrate your success with your team before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
